The Effects of Oxidized Biodiesel Fuel on Fatty Acid Methyl Ester Composition and Particulate Matter Emissions from a Light-Duty Diesel Engine

Research Product Type
Dissertation / Thesis
In this study, PM mass generated from a light-duty diesel engine running on three different fuel types—pure (“neat”) B100 biodiesel, pure B0 diesel, and B20 (20% v/v biodiesel blend with diesel)—was quantified and compared to the PM mass (and concentrations) from repeated emissions testing using artificially oxidized B100 and B20 biodiesel as the fuel source.

Transportation Fundamentals

In 2019, UC Davis experts met with a cross section of policy stakeholders to discuss sustainable transportation topics in California and the rest of the US over the coming years. The Transportation Fundamentals briefing series was an opportunity for staffers in the Legislature, Regulatory Agencies and NGOs who are new to the sustainable transportation space to familiarize themselves with important technologies, statistics and trends in electric vehicles, alternative fuels, sustainable freight.

Understanding and Advancing THF Co-Solvent Enhanced Lignocellulosic Fractionation (CELF) Pretreatment when Integrated with Enzymatic Hydrolysis and Fermentation

  • Principal Investigator Abhishek S. Patri
  • University of California, Riverside
Co-solvent Enhanced Lignocellulosic Fractionation (CELF) has been developed as an advanced pretreatment technology to achieve high sugar yields from biomass at low enzyme loadings. In this thesis, the reasons behind increased digestibility of Alamo switchgrass after CELF were investigated in comparison to research benchmark dilute sulfuric acid (DSA) pretreatment.

What Happened to Biofuels? Review of Biofuel Costs and Evolution in the U.S.

  • Principal Investigator Julie Witcover, Ph.D.
  • University of California, Davis
This white paper will provide needed context on biofuel supply cost estimates. The research team will compare literature for particular biofuel technology pathway costs against current biofuel trends and models.
