Implementing Industry-Supported and Demand-Driven Talent Pipelines for the Trade and Transportation Sector

This project will produce a Talent Pipeline Blueprint report that identifies the necessary steps required to build cross-campus CSU talent pipelines that target the most in-demand trade and transportation occupations requiring specific degrees, certificates, and non-credit professional development. Developing talent pipelines will empower trade and transportation employers to play a more central role in addressing skills gaps and other critical workforce development needs in working partnerships with postsecondary education and training providers.

The SB-1 Talent Pipeline is being implemented in several phases. First, a literature review focusing on pipelines to trade/transportation pipelines was developed to conceptualize an understanding of general principles of pipeline development. Next, preliminary market information was gathered using Bureau of labor Statistics data to determine job demand and followed up by a survey of CSU campus leaders that estimated the most in-demand jobs and most relevant opportunities for students. Outreach post-survey will involve an invitation to participate in a focus group with educational and industry partners. Survey results will be used to inform recommendations on the creation of a pipeline.
