Event Overview

Commercial vehicles are of particular interest in parking enforcement because of their heavy presence in central business districts and their recurrent behavior of illegal parking. This presentation discussed highlights of several recent studies of commercial vehicle parking issues in Downtown Toronto. It began with a discussion of the issues and challenges facing downtown carriers. It discussed parking supply-demand discrepancies in Downtown Toronto and their relationships with illegal commercial vehicle parking. The researcher's efforts to qualify the impacts of illegal parking on congestion, using traffic microsimulation were presented. The presentation concluded with our analysis of some policy interventions.
