Urban Commercial Vehicle Parking in Toronto; Illegal Parking Issues, Impacts, Analysis Methods and Policy Interventions

Commercial vehicles are of particular interest in parking enforcement because of their heavy presence in central business districts and their recurrent behavior of illegal parking. This presentation will discuss highlights of several recent studies of commercial vehicle parking issues in Downtown Toronto. It will begin with a discussion of the issues and challenges facing downtown carriers. It will discuss parking supply-demand discrepancies in Downtown Toronto and their relationships with illegal commercial vehicle parking. Our efforts to qualify the impacts of illegal parking on congestion, using traffic microsimulation will be presented. The presentation will conclude with our analysis of some policy interventions.
