Fighting for Curb Space: Parking, Ride-Hailing, Urban Freight Deliveries, and Other Users

Research Product Type
Research Report
This study developed a parking simulation in SUMO following a set of parking behaviors (e.g., parking search, parking with off-street parking information availability, double-parking). These scenarios were tested in three different (land use-based) sub-study areas representing residential, commercial and mixed-use.

Modeling for Local Impact Analysis

  • Principal Investigator Petros Ioannou, Ph.D.
  • University of Southern California
This project developed a set of traffic simulation models for the Los Angeles/Long Beach region that allowed the researchers to evaluate impacts on transportation system efficiency and on the environment.

Prediction framework for parking search cruising time and emissions in dense urban areas

Research Product Type
Associated Publication
This paper: (1) uses empirical data and conducts descriptive and comparative analysis using a spatial lag model to analyze the factors influencing average cruising time (ACT) related to parking search, and (2) proposes a novel framework to predict grid-based ACT and to estimate average emission metrics (AEM).

Transportation Fundamentals

In 2019, UC Davis experts met with a cross section of policy stakeholders to discuss sustainable transportation topics in California and the rest of the US over the coming years. The Transportation Fundamentals briefing series was an opportunity for staffers in the Legislature, Regulatory Agencies and NGOs who are new to the sustainable transportation space to familiarize themselves with important technologies, statistics and trends in electric vehicles, alternative fuels, sustainable freight.
