Framework for Urban Metabolism and Life Cycle Assessment of Hardscape

Research Product Type
White Paper
This white paper advocates that researchers and policy-makers use the analytical approach of combining urban, material flow analysis and elements of life cycle assessment to measure and improve the efficiency of urban hardscape in large urbanized areas.

Fuel and Emissions Calculator (FEC) Version 4.0

  • Principal Investigator Randall Guensler, Ph.D.
  • Georgia Institute of Technology
This research will update to the spreadsheet version of the Fuel and Emissions Calculator (FEC) to Version 4.0. The update will incorporate the emission and energy use rates from the latest version of the EPA's MOVES 4.0 regulatory model for conventional and electric vehicles, utilizing the latest matrices from MOVES-Matrix 4.0 (also developed by the research team) and associated source type technology parameters.

Calculator

This calculator builds upon the earlier Fuel and Emissions Calculator. Updates include addition of light-duty vehicles, biodiesel, and more recent electricity emissions data.

Future Electric Vehicle Charging Demand at Highway Rest Areas and Implications for Renewable Energy Penetration in California

Research Product Type
Policy Brief
This policy brief summarizes findings from researchers at the University of California, Davis, who collected state travel data and electricity demand data to run a model that identified optimal highway rest areas for electric vehicle charger installation and calculated how an increase in charging demand would affect the California electricity grid at selected highway locations.

Incorporating Strategic Business Behaviors in Electric Vehicles (EVs) Charging Infrastructure System Modeling

  • Principal Investigator Zhaomiao Guo
  • University of California, Davis
This dissertation focuses primarily on the system analysis of critical infrastructure systems (CIS), with a particular interest to address the modeling and computational challenges brought by uncertainties, interdependencies and distributed decision making of various components and stakeholders involved in CISs.
