This research first examines the differentiation between HEV, PHEV and BEV users in Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) four-county region regarding the aspects of user household socio-demographic attributes, daily travel pattern and energy usage profile, and then builds a choice model for future households’ purchasing of additional vehicles to choose between ICEVs, HEVs, PHEVs and BEVs with household demographic data, household historical trip data and household travel energy usage data as inputs. The differentiation between HEVs, PHEVs and BEVs in the proposed choice modeling is expected to significantly improve the tour-vehicle assignment functionality in future activity-based travel demand models as EVs continue to penetrate the household travel market over time.
