Event Overview

Eco-driving is an important strategy available to transit agencies to improve fuel economy, reduce vehicle emissions, and improve their bottom line. This webinar featured a presentation by Yanzhi (Ann) Xu from the Georgia Institute of Technology who discussed the state-of-the knowledge on eco-driving solutions specific to transit vehicles and the potential impacts of driver behavior and other fuel conservation strategies (e.g., new vehicle purchase, infrastructure capital improvements) on fuel consumption and emissions of transit vehicles. A highlight of the presentation were the results of Georgia Tech’s recent analysis of second-by-second data collected from Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) buses and Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) buses. Results from this study show that transit eco-driving could yield a 5% reduction in fuel consumption for MARTA’s fleet and a 7% reduction in fuel consumption for GRTA’s express bus fleet.
