This dissertation focuses on the assessment of technical feasibility and economic workability of BEVs in a variety of heavy-duty on- and off-road applications. In the on-road HDV segment, battery electric trucks (BETs) have become commercially available in recent years, but their ability to operate at the same level as conventional diesel trucks was unclear.
In this study, PM mass generated from a light-duty diesel engine running on three different fuel types—pure (“neat”) B100 biodiesel, pure B0 diesel, and B20 (20% v/v biodiesel blend with diesel)—was quantified and compared to the PM mass (and concentrations) from repeated emissions testing using artificially oxidized B100 and B20 biodiesel as the fuel source.
This mixed-methods dissertation explores questions related to the governance landscape and the institutional and political factors that surround highway expansion projects.
This dissertation examines the relationship between "motility," or mobility skills & attitudes, and travel behavior. Specifically, the researcher examines bicycling among schoolchildren and college-aged students and drivers license delays among teenagers.
This dissertation is about bicycling as a mode of transportation, specifically about how road environments influence perceptions of safety and attitudes about bicycling, and how policies aimed at changing the road environment might influence travel behavior more broadly.
This thesis reports on understanding factors that influence the performance of Co-solvent Enhanced Lignocellulosic Fractionation (CELF) pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass with subsequent consolidated bioprocessing (CBP) to maximize product yields at low process severity.
The overarching goal of this dissertation is to learn about the future options and policies for a low carbon energy system and transportation sector. It consists of three chapters build upon and extend the CA-TIMES framework, and address three key issues in energy/economic modeling.
This dissertation contains analyses on data from a dual-wave survey deployed between 2016 and 2018 in communities in the Southern United States regarding bicycle infrastructure.
