The Wildlife Crossing Calculator (WCC) includes a set of analytical tools to help estimate the costs to the public of crashes involving wildlife and compare those costs with the costs and benefits of wildlife crossing mitigations. WCC results in "Crash Cost" analysis that provides the annual cost per mile of crashes, including both the vehicle and wildlife losses. The map highlights the locations to consider mitigating. The user can select different mitigation features (e.g., fencing) and dimensions of the mitigations (e.g., length of culvert) as part of a project scenario and the tool will estimate the total mitigation cost. The user can then compare crash costs with mitigation costs. This tool is designed for state agencies and their partners who are considering, planning or building wildlife mitigation structures.
