Towards Environmentally Sustainable Transportation: Development of CELF-CBP Technologies for Integrated Bio-refineries

Lignocellulosic biomass is a renewable resource with the potential to significantly reduce dependence on petroleum for production of fuels and chemicals. However, the recalcitrant nature of this biomass necessitates robust conversion technologies to enable economic competitiveness of future biorefineries. The overall goal of this work is to maximize total valorization of the glucan, xylan, and lignin found in a woody lignocellulosic biomass by understanding and advancing CELF pretreatment combined with downstream consolidated bioprocessing for the production of biofuels and bioproducts.
