Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), including electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and uncrewed aerial systems, is emerging as a new transportation platform with potential applications in passenger mobility, freight logistics, emergency response, infrastructure inspection, and regional connectivity. While industry development and federal initiatives are accelerating, many metropolitan transportation agencies lack practical guidance for integrating AAM into existing transportation systems. The proposed white paper will synthesize current planning efforts, institutional strategies, and implementation lessons from U.S. metropolitan regions preparing for AAM deployment. Special attention will be given to Houston, Texas, where airport systems, freight activity, regional growth, and public-private partnerships create a strong environment for evaluating metropolitan readiness. Additional examples from Orlando, St. Petersburg, and other emerging regions will be examined. Using literature review, comparative case studies, stakeholder interviews, and practitioner engagement, the project will develop a practical framework for integrating AAM into metropolitan transportation systems. Key topics may include governance, infrastructure planning, multimodal connectivity, freight opportunities, workforce readiness, and phased implementation pathways.
