The rapid diversification of distribution strategies has dramatically changed how we shop and the way companies design their retail and distribution operations. All these changes have important implications for logistics modeling from the strategic, tactical and operational perspectives. In this webinar, Dr. Miguel Jaller discusses how these changes will be reflected in logistics and transportation planning models, including changes in shopping decisions, from where to shop, what to shop, and how much to shop. He reviews the impacts of and trade-offs between facility location, fleet and technology characteristics, time-windows, and the use of crowd-shipping services, as well as how these factors affect the sustainability of the urban transportation system.

Dr. Miguel Jaller’s research interests are in the areas of freight transportation, sustainable transportation systems, and humanitarian logistics. He has published scientific and technical publications on these topics, and has presented at different national and international venues. Dr. Jaller has been a part of several important research and consulting projects funded by the United States Department of Transportation, the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council, the National Cooperative Freight Research Program, the National Science Foundation, and the Inter-American Development Bank, among others.
